Dr. William Chinery was born in Accra, the capital of Ghana in West Africa.
He attended St. Anthony’s Elementary School in Accra, and then attended high school at the Prince of Wales College, Achimota in Accra. While in boarding high school his mother always made sure he had a fully stocked first aid box, this made him the go to person for first aid.
Before long he knew he wanted to be a doctor. William graduated from the University of Ghana Medical School in 1993 and worked in community pediatrics in Accra where he was responsible for the health maintenance of over 6000 elementary school children.
A few years later, he relocated to London, in the United Kingdom where he completed his pediatric training and practiced General Pediatrics and Neonatology for 6 years.
Dr. Chinery moved to the United States in 2007 and did his pediatric residency in Lincoln Medical Center in the Bronx, New York. He was chief resident and best resident in final year.
He has been a board certified, practicing pediatrician in South Carolina since 2010, and has been physician of the year twice as well as best community advocate and hospital supporter. He is a fellow of the American Association of Pediatrics and a Member of the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health in the United Kingdom.
He is married with 2 children and enjoys spending time with family. He also enjoys music and sports.
Dr. Chinery believes a child is not an isolated being but an integral part of the family and it takes the family to form a community. He is passionate about primary care especially preventive medicine, health maintenance and the concept of a medical home.
His special interests are Neonatology and Developmental pediatrics.
